Heavy rainfall on Sunday destroyed
farmlands and produces in six villages in Gumel Local Government Area of Jigawa
state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
reports that the rainfall destroyed over 200 farmlands and produces worth over
N500 million.
The Information Officer of the
council, Malam Sulaiman Usman, told NAN on Monday that produces destroyed
included millet, guinea corn, beans, watermelon and sesame.
He listed the villages hit by the
downpour as Garin Gambo, Gwari, Garin Galadima, Baikarya, Zuge and Garin Baki.
He said that beneficiary of the
state government’s cluster farming scheme in the areas were also affected by
the disaster.
According to him, the affected
farmers have asked for the quick intervention of the council and the state
government to cushion the effect of the disaster.
