ASUP Strike: Mubi Poly not affected (By dailytrust.com.ng)

Mubi (Adamawa), Jan. 31, 2017 (NAN) Academic activities continued at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi in Adamawa state on Monday, in spite of the commencement of a one-week warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who monitored activities in the institution, reports that normal academic activities continued as lecturers went ahead to hold lectures.

The ASUP Chapter Chairman, Mr Martins Bunu, told NAN that the union would not join the strike due to an existing court order.
Bunu said an industrial court in Jos had already issued an order restraining the union from participating in any industrial action.
“The court order before us has barred us from participating in any industrial action or even protest; so we are afraid of going to jail for contempt of court.
“Although the issue is complicated but we must toe the part of legality since we have a case pending in an industrial court.
“We are in touch with the national executives on the matter,’’ he said.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Sadiq Yahya, commended the union for not joining in the strike.
Yahya urged the union to consider the plight of the students whose academic programmes had been interrupted in the past by the Boko Haram insurgency.
NAN reports that ASUP commenced a one-week warning strike to press home their demands from government.
