The Adamawa Command of the Nigerian Police, has issued 14 day- ultimatum to people in possession of illegal fire arms to surrender them to the police headquarters or risk being arrested.
The Commissioner of Police, Adullahi Yerima, said, the order is to ensure mop up, seizure and recovery of fire arms from kidnappers, armed robbers, cattle rustlers in the state. Yerima made the disclosure in Yola at a sensitisation workshop on the ongoing nationwide operation to curb the proliferation of small, light and illegal weapons in the country.
He, thereafter, directed the DPOs across the 21 local councils of the state to strictly comply and liaise with relevant government organs for proper enforcement of the firearms act in the state.
The Police listed Artillery, Rocket weapons, Bomb and Grenades, Machine-guns and machine-pistols as categories of weapons prohibited. Others include military rifles, revolvers and pistols, pump action guns of all categories, lethal weapons fabricated to kill and apparatus for the discharge of any explosive of gas diffusing projectile.
The command said it would embark on raid, seizure, cordon and search of premises and locations where fire arms are kept in the state. Yerima warned that no licence would be given or recognised in respect of prohibited firearms and ammunitions only approved by Mr president, upon recognition of the Inspector General of Police.
The directives urged people to comply as the command is determined to ensure protection of lives and property in the state.
