Sheriff Urges PDP Governors To Support Reconciliation (By: channelstv.com

The factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali-Modu Sheriff, has appealed to governors in the PDP to desist from making comments that will scuttle the ongoing reconciliation in the party.

Senator Sheriff who was represented by Mr. Cairo Ojougboh at a meeting in Abuja with party representatives from Delta State added that the governors are critical members that are needed to speed up the peace process.

Mr Ojougboh was reacting to a comment credited to a serving governor of the party that all court cases should be exhausted before reconciliation.
He said that leaders of the two factions were determined to see that the reconciliation is achieved.
“It is only expedient and necessary that when there is a problem, the governors should be part of the reconciliation efforts, not fueling the embers of war.
“In spite of what the Appeal Court or the Supreme Court might say, peace is what is necessary. If we are able to achieve peace before the outcome of all these legal processes, we will choose the path of peace,” he said.
Both leadership factions asked governors to avoid making statements that would jeopardise the efforts to reconcile the factions and forge a strong opposition in Nigeria.
Senator Ahmed Markarfi and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s factions made the request on Friday at a joint press conference in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja.
Senator Sheriff addressed reporters on behalf of the factions.
The factions had few days ago said they were coming together to reconcile the issues that led to division and subsequent parallel leadership in the party.
The two group leaders have also agreed to set up a joint committee that would reconcile other aggrieved members of the party.
