A former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Saidu Babangida Nguroje, yesterday said the Mambila Hydro Project prioritised by the President Muhammadu Buhari- led government, will boost the economic activities in the North-east.
Nguroje, who stated this in a statement he issued in Abuja, added that the North-east region need prompt attention following its destruction by the Boko Haram insurgents.
“I appreciate the President for his kindness and considerations of the Mambila hydro project which will boost and reboot economic activities in the region of North east”.
“Let me also appeal to the National Assembly to make appropriate allocations for the commencement and completion of the Mambila hydro project,” Nguroje said.
While commending President Buhari for including the hydro project in the 2018 budget before the legislature, te former deputy speaker expressed confidence that the National Assembly will again, come to the rescue of the region by expeditiously providing for the Mambila hydro, which has the prospects of creating direct, indirect jobs and ultimately triggering an unprecedented economic boom in the region and Taraba state in particular.
“Let me commend the President of the senate, Bukola Sarai, speaker Yaubu Dogara, the leadership of the National Assembly and the entire parliament for the passage of the North-east Development bill I want to also thank President Muhammadu Buhari for the signing into law of this all important bill which seeks to amongst other things, address the state of squalor, destruction and backwardness in the region occasioned by activities of terrorists..
“The establishment is a statement of commitment to the plight of the region and re-assurances, it is unprecedented and we are indeed grateful to everyone who made any meaningful contribution and support which culminated in the establishment of this commission, posterity will judge you fairly and, for the National Assembly, you have written your names in gold and stamped your footprints on sans of time.”
